The Vineyard Course at Newport National is a wonderful complement to the existing Orchard Course. Set on a gently rolling terrain, each hole is carefully crafted so they blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings and preserve the historic stone walls and specimen oak trees. Much like the Orchard Course, the Vineyard Course has a charming New England feel that is reminiscent of many classic old golf courses found in the Northeast. Along with a beautiful new clubhouse, the Vineyard Course also provide a new state-of-the-art practice facility, which includes a double-ended driving range with over 70,000 square feet of practice tee and multiple target greens. It also includes a one acre short game area with multiple bunkers and ample fairway surrounds so players can practice virtually any short shot they can imagine.
This slightly uphill drive, often played into the prevailing wind, must favor the left-center of the fairway. Miss right, and
your approach becomes a challenge, as the green is blind from the fairway. Small in size, the green is well protected by a bunker guarding the front right, demanding a precise second shot.
Fescue and a series of bunkers guard the entire right side, placing a premium on accuracy. The kidney-shaped green is protected by a large bunker in front, demanding a confident approach. Miss a bit long, however, and you’ll find a beautifully maintained closely mowed area that offers a fair chance to get up and down.
